Our Montessori Nursery in Bury St Edmunds
Forest School
Set within walled gardens in the heart of Nowton Park, we have created a dynamic space where your child can delve into nature, play freely, and take safe risks- all while developing important skills and confidence.
Combining Forest School principles with Montessori education is like adding a natural twist to an already nurturing learning environment. Both approaches prioritise hands-on exploration and self-directed learning. This is a wonderful outdoor environment where children can explore, play and learn, supported by our experienced and qualified Forest School team. A cosy log cabin, alongside our hobbit house and bell tent, gives shelter on especially cold and rainy days but on most days the children (and adults) have fun in the maize maze, mud pool, den-building & construction areas. Everyone helps to prepare lunch which is cooked on the wood-burning stove. The park covers an area of approximately 200 acres and includes arboreta with trees from all over the world, bird-feeding stations, wildflower meadows and ponds. As you can imagine, there is an abundance of wildlife which we love to see on our daily forest adventures, and pond-dipping is always a favourite!
We want to spread awareness about the benefits of Montessori education and to be a helpful resource in the wider education community.
Using Montessori approach, we help children aged 3 months to 5 years develop in all aspects—intellectual, social, physical, spiritual, and economic.
Child protection is paramount to providing safe and enriching learning environments for our families in West Suffolk and nearby areas.
“Everyone is Welcome” regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, nationality, or ability. We support initiatives such as the ‘Every Disabled Child Matters’ campaign.
Nurturing Young Bodies Year-Round with Freshly Prepared Meals
All meals are freshly prepared by our nursery chefs. Menus incorporate seasonal produce and are adjusted to children’s dietary needs where necessary. To learn more, visit our page about nursery nutrition.

A truly Global Education
Montessori education inspires children to explore their surroundings and develop a deep understanding and respect for the various life forms, systems, and forces in our world. As technology increasingly connects us with people worldwide, it becomes essential for our children to use these tools to appreciate cultural differences. This will equip them to become global citizens in a rapidly changing world. To read more, visit our page about Montessori education.

Barrow & Redwoods
With over 20 years of experience in early years and a level 5 in Early Years and Education, I’ve dedicated my career to supporting children and families as they navigate the important early stages of life. I’ve worked in a variety of childcare settings over the years, gradually building my skills and knowledge, and I am now proud to lead my own nursery as a Manager for Colourbox Barrow and Redwoods. My passion lies in building strong relationships with families and helping each child grow into their unique potential. I believe in creating a warm, inclusive environment where children feel safe, happy, and excited to learn, and where staff feel supported and empowered.
Outside of my role as Nursery Manager, I enjoy taking my dog out for long walks in the forest and spending time with my family and friends.
